i was there o.O

I was there at the wall! Look!!!

Unbelieveable beauty: The Great Wall (Simetai), China

Tara and Sina at The Wall

I can't even begin to describe what it was like to be at the great wall. When you stared off into the horizon towards the north and then towards the south, the wall just stretched, stretched, and stretched off into the distance. This thing never ended. It went as far as the land and sky, and kissed the sky at the horizon. It was breath-taking!

Here are some more pics:

Looking to the South

Looking to the North

If you look in the picture "Looking to the North" and you look at the third (and highest) watchtower, you will see how far we climbed on our 3 hour hike on the Great Wall. That watchtower was the highest reachable peak from our starting point. The view from that tower was incredible!

The View from the High Tower

The Ancient Stairs of The Wall

Climbing the wall was one of the most arduous hikes I've done. The stairs are uneven, they are steep in some places, and crumbling in others.

I was pretty surprised at how damp the stones were. Considering that we were out doing our hike at the end of summer and we were hiking under a blistering sun, the stones were always cool and wet. I often sat to rest against a shady wall and hugged the damp stone to cool off. Also, I should mention, there will gazillions of centipedes and beetles on the wall... I'm sure the dampness had something to do with this.

A Room with a View 2

The watchtowers were these tiny little dirt floored rooms that had many little windows worked into the masonry. The windows offered a beautiful view of the area.

Overall, I was impressed and even moved by the majesty of the great wall. Pictures will never do justice to this experience. Platypus boy and I want to go back in our future. We would like to do a two or three day campout hike on the wall. We're actually pretty excited by this idea.

I hope you loved the pics!!! More photos of China to come soon!!!!

new! exciting! beautiful!!!!

Okay, now that I have your attention, I just wanted to show you the new art I've been working on. In the past 12 months that I've been living in Korea, I've gotten away from doing "art" and have been focusing a lot on jewelry (not that there's a difference to me, really!) I've gotten back into doing my lovely floral stills, which I am known for in Canada.

Normally my stills are in wool or silk, but this time I've been able to render miniature floral sculptures from the beads I've been using in my jewelry.

I found these stellar frames. They are very organic in style, and I have to say the are quite elegant in their earthy simplicity. These frames match perfectly with my style of work, and so I have paired them with my sculptures.

Have a gander at my new work:

ok... so i'm back!

View of a temple inside the Forbidden City

I'm here! I'm back! Whew! What a whirlwind trip!

China was great fun! Playpus got to eat some delicious exotic food, I got to shop, and we both had a fantastic time taking in all of the sights and smells.

Some highlights:
We saw Tiannemen square, the Forbidden City, the White Cloud Temple, the Great Wall, the Beijing Zoo, and a Tibetan folk performance troup. I was able to buy some tea (yayyyyyy!), some beads (woohooooo!), a lantern, a few accessories, and some gifts for my family.

I'm not going to make a long post here, because I just got back and I still have a lot of clean up / organizing to do. I will post details of the highlights of my trip in sections later on.

See you all back here in 2 or 3 days!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that the platypus and I are off to China in about 24 hours. We're pretty excited about this adventure because we haven't had too many opportunities to travel in our lives.

friday lethargy = saturday energy?

Simon says: Get your ass in gear, Momma!

Okay, so it's Friday night, and I have to say that this past week has been hell week. I've been working 11 hour days. On top of this, I had meetings with parents all week. Everything went fine, so all is well on the day job front. But now... Well, I'm dead tired. Exhausted doesn't even begin to describe it.

Tonight the playpus and I are going to lay around and clean up the apartment because we are having a send off party for some of our closest pals here in Korea. Sadly (for me and my bf) they are going back home to begin the next phase of their lives.

Before the party, I'm going to head off to the bead market and go on a buying extravaganza. I'm going to start buying for my late fall/winter line. I have a decent sized budget this month, and so I'm pretty excited about that.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Colour combos you'd like to see? Styles you want me to make more of? Feel free to comment!

a good time was had by all!

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday toooo yoooooooooou! Happy birthday dear platypus! Happy birthday toooo youuuuuuuuuuuu!

Enjoying birthday kisses!

Yes, it was Sina's birthday this weekend, and the old codger is finally catching up to me in age!

If you've all been wondering where the heck I've been all weekend... I planned a surprise party for Sina on Friday night. We went out for a lovely dinner with 10 of our closest friends and then we went to Norebahng. For those of you who don't know what Norebahng is, think of Karaoke, but in private rooms. We all had a superfantastic time making complete arses out of ourselves.

I made myself a pair of these earrings, and I wore them out for the big celebration:

I bought Sina this t-shirt for his b-day:

Asphalt Owl Tree T-shirt
by Circular Accessories

He loves this t-shirt and has been wearing it almost every day since I gave it to him. I think the t-shirt makes him feel "cool". Although, he claims that he wears it so much because it's "comfortable".

Happy birthday Sina! I hope you had a great time!!!!!!!!!

look at what I bought...

My New Year's dress:

Innocent Claudia Dress
by Boudoir Queen

I can't wait to see this dress! I will see it on December 6th, when I get back to Canada. (I had it mailed to my mom's house.) Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

thump.... snork!

The sound of me hittin' it hard... my bed that is!

Me catching some zzZZZzzzzzs.

Okay, so I have to admit, I'm a little tired what with all my 12 hour days. At my ESL school we're putting in overtime so the students "can enrich their lives" during their summer vacation. This schedule, on top my regular Etsy work is killing me.

Because I've been so tired I haven't quite been maintaining my shop as assiduously as I usually do. For this I apologize and beg for your understanding. Sina and I will be leaving for vacation in about a week and a half, and after that I plan to turn into a jewelry making/posting fiend.

I'm hoping Daughter of Luxury will get hit hard over the holiday season, and so I've been stocking up on supplies. I have envelopes and labels coming out the whazoo! And my beads are spilling out beyond their usual boundaries of the kitchen table.

Just a quick FYI... I'm going on a huge bead buying spree (monthly budget: $600!) next Saturday. It was planned for today, but I was just far too tired to fight the crowds in Dongdaemun. I'm going to invest in a lot of fall/winter colours. (I'm thinking mocha brown pearls with mother of pearl, and some wonderful snakeskin turquoise with bone accents!) I also have some great plans for a few Christmas and New Year's items. I'm going to make some elegant red/white combos with a retro feel that will also translate well in summer. For New Year's pieces, I'm going to focus on black, long, and luxurious! I can't wait!!!!!

so... i'm doing it!!!

This is me and my magical compooter!

This is my rabbit, Simon. He tells me to do things.

These are my ideas!!

I've decided to take the plunge. I'm 100% starting this business when I go to Canada.

That big book you see there has *all* of my ideas in it. I have everything I need to do in the next four months listed, according to topic and date. I have a list of all the people I will consult and all the places I need to go in the first two months of my arrival home.

I have an investment and savings plan!

Am I organized? I don't know! Am I ready? I don't think so. Am I scared shitless? Absolutely.

Wish me luck y'all!
